Has anyone ever asked you what your opinion is on important issues like the state of the economy or defence, except when there is a looming election or bye election? Ever written to a politician and received a less than convincing reply or even worse no reply at all? Do you despair because all three main parties are essentially cut from the same cloth? In short, do politicians ignore you? If so, then this is the site for you! Many of the laws of the UK that control your lives are made in back room deals in the EU and Westminster where lobbyists hold sway. This is the old fashioned way of doing political business. Events in North Africa and the Middle East have shown us all the reach and strength of people power utilising social media and the Internet. The peoples of those countries are arguably now tasting more of democracy than we do in the UK. They are showing us the way and could well end up with a freer society than we have. They are looking to the future while our politicians carry on in the same old ways. The idea here is simple. People can submit policies and laws for consideration and comment. Commenters will propose amendments that can be voted on, then the original proposal can be amended to take into account the more popular amendments. Then updated drafts will be published regularly so the documents gradually morph into something the majority want. Once a final draft is arrived at everyone will be asked to vote on whether to accept it or not. The more people that engage the more powerful this will become to the point that politicians will have to refer to what you are saying here when framing their bills. Let the Internet help you to force politicians to listen. The first thing to do though is to frame a UK Constitution. Many people are not aware that a true single constitution does not exist for the UK, it is ‘unwritten’, an amalgam of all the EU and domestic statute and common law all mixed in with the Royal Prerogative. It changes with every law that is passed. A properly written constitution would force successive governments to operate within a proper framework and could prevent them handing over power to external authorities such as the EU without your consent. The current party in power is toying with creating a constitution/Bill of Rights, have they asked you to help and give your ideas?
