An Open Letter to Lord Alistair McAlpine

Dear Lord McAlpine,

Your lawyer was on the radio yesterday, threatening that all those on Twitter who so much as mentioned your name in connection with paedophilia would be sued for libel. So I thought I’d do a little digging … and I have to say, within a matter of hours, I’d found what I was looking for. So I wonder how much more a dedicated team of lawyers would find? And now I’ve found this damning piece of evidence, I understand why your lawyer is recommending that you settle out of court for an apology and an agreed sum of money, rather than have the spotlight shone on your life and your past.

Well, sir, you’ve already managed to extort £185,000 out of the BBC in that way …. but there’s no way you’ll be getting any more from tweeters, or anyone else. In fact, by the time you’ve finished reading this post, if you have any sense, you’ll be packing your bags and disappearing off the scene again fast.

So here’s the case for the defence:

Last night, I came across an interview you gave you an Australian newspaper in August 2000 in order to publicise your book: The New Machiavelli: The Art of Politics in Business – you know the one, a guide on how to succeed in modern politics by being vile? A book on how to manipulate people for the “greater good”?

In the article, the journalist quoted an extract from it:

McAlpine’s advice on dealing with the media? Spread false defeat to gain public sympathy; or false accusation and then arrange for it to be exposed as such – so the accuser will forever be treated with suspicion.

Isn’t that what you’ve just done to poor Stephen Messham? And presented yourself as the ‘poor victim’ instead?

You knew since 1998 that you were being accused of paedophilia, when David Icke’s book was published, The Biggest Secret, in which he named you along with a lot of other high profile names. In response, your Thatcherite friends smuggled you out of the country to America, where you were beseiged by the press for a while until one way or another, it was all hushed up again and you could get on with your life as a “tax exile”.

So you can’t say you didn’t know. You very plainly did.

But you never refuted the allegation or took David Icke to court.

You also didn’t sue Scallywag magazine when they named you.

In any case, we now have you banged to rights. You may have hidden in plain sight your modus operandi but unfortunately for you, your Lordship, some of us are now waking up to see what’s been hidden. And as more and more are wakng up every day… maybe it’s time for another quick exit stage left into exile again?

But before you go, if I were you, I’d donate the £185,000 which you extorted out of the BBC with menaces to Children In Need tonight, and then quietly fade back into the shadows. Oh yes, and you should also donate the profits from the sale of your child porn collection to a children’s home of your choice. How about Bryn Estyn?

And then the rest of us can get back to investigating whether Ken Livingstone was right when he said in his maiden speech to Parliament in 1987, and on LBC radio last week, that Mi5 would film the child sex abuse at the Kincora boys home in order to blackmail politicians as part of the Northern Ireland Peace Process.

We have serious work to be getting on with in this country and your silly stunt has cost us a whole week.

Enough is enough.

Goodbye Lord McAlpine. Please shut the door on your way out.

Yes folks, this has been a Trial by Twitter ~ infinitely more effective (and cheaper!) than a Trial by Toffs.

Yours sincerely,

Ishtar

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: I found the Australian feature article citing McAlpine’s book on David Icke’s forum, in the amazing behemoth of a thread: Jimmy Savile Outed, which has been doing sterling work in the last few weeks … and which all the mainstream media journos were following for their leads before McAlpine, Cameron and Schofield pulled their silly stunt last week.
