Sea Shepherd’s ship the Steve Irwin has been impounded on trumped up charges to prevent it reaching the Faroe Islands in time to protest and maybe interfere with the annual ‘Grind’ ie mass slaughter of whales trapped in shallow water. Efforts are being made all around the world to raise the cash to free the ‘Steve Irwin’ and Wiltshire, England is no exception.
On Saturday July 30th, long term animal rights campaigner Matthew Williams (circlemakerstv.org) organised a highly successful fund raising auction based on his own large collection of original sketches, drawings and designs with additional anonymous contributions from circlemakers and friends. The designs included some which had been used ‘in the field’, some which had later been adapted and used to create formations, and experimental drawings which as yet haven’t materialised in the ‘real’ world.
Other items auctioned included a well used stomping board, a three foot square painting on canvas and a printed T-shirt with an image of a recent formation.
Despite the morbid behaviour of the humans who make this protest and fund raising necessary, the event, attended by members of the public, human circlemakers and crop circle researchers, was a light hearted event probably due to the good intentions of all attendees who came together to support a worthy cause.
Matthew’s TV show featuring interviews with real circlemakers and real researchers is archived here http://www.livestream.com/circlemakerstv
